While spring and summer is often the best time to take your RV out to the campsite, the warm weather can seriously affect your comfort and enjoyment while you’re out on a vacation. Due to the compact structure of a camper, heat gets trapped very easily – and it can be tricky getting all that warmth out of your trailer.
Even if you have an air conditioning unit, it still might not do enough when your RV has gotten so hot. That means that you’ll need to use a few alternative strategies. With the following tips, you’ll be able to minimize how much heat gets into your trailer in the first place.
Park out of the Sun
You can reduce the amount of heat that gets into your RV by doing something as simple as parking strategically, which means you will want to try to get your camper into the shade. If possible, park somewhere that will be shady in the afternoon, since that’s the hottest part of the day.
If this isn’t possible, at least position your RV so that the side with the most windows doesn’t face the afternoon sun. The glass will heat up very quickly, which will have a very uncomfortable impact on your RV’s interior. You’ll save yourself from a lot of heat by facing the majority of the windows away from the sun.
Block out the Sun
You might have seen people put reflective bubble insulations in their windshields to keep their cars a little cooler while parked. This same strategy works in an RV, since a lot of the excess heat comes from sun rays trickling in through your windows.
Blinds and curtains just don’t quite do the trick. By putting this insulation on the inside of your windows, you’ll block the sun from entering your RV in the first place!
Cook Outside
One of the biggest sources of heat in a small space like an RV is the kitchen. Your oven and stove generate a lot of heat, and while that makes things nice and toasty during the fall and winter, it can feel very oppressive when the weather is already warm. To that end, try to avoid using your kitchen for cooking during hot days. Pack a grill or use a campfire to cook your food outside in the fresh air instead.
