Montana Fifth Wheels

Compare Montana fifth wheels with Cedar Creek fifth wheels.  Montana campers has three series Montana Big Sky (their most luxurious), Montana (a majority of their sales), and Mountaineer.  Only the Montana can have the Big Sky Package upgrade, not the Mountaineer.  This information is based on the show in November 2011 showing off the manufactures most recent changes and things to come for 2012.  We are a dealer who sells Cedar Creek against Colorado Montana fifth wheel dealers and could be viewed as bias but I think you will see that Cedar Creek is by far a superior product after seeing them side by side as we did.  We want to sell only the best quality and value as I'm sure you want to buy the quality and value.

Cable drawn slides - This is a down side because over time the cable stretches and come out of adjustment.  This is especially more of an issue on bigger slides.  It's a cheaper way to build a slide.  Some but not all the Montana used the cable in their slides.

Cedar Creek uses hydraulics which is much more reliable.  You'll notice bigger machinery like farm equipment uses hydraulic systems for that same reason.

OSB /Chip board floor - All the Montana fifth wheels still have OSB chip board in the floor.  This can lead to cupping and bowing in the floor if you bust a pipe, leave a vent open and some rain comes in, or spill some liquid on the floor.

Cedar Creek on the other hand uses 5/8" tongue and groove plywood decking that is marine grade treated.

Smaller closet space - We only looked at a few of the models but all the Montana fifth wheels had very limited closet space in the the bed room compared to the closet found in a Cedar Creek.
If you want Lay-z-boy recliners, you'll have to stick with Cedar Creek as Montana fifth wheels don't have that option.
Laminated walls - This is probably one of the more serious down sides to a Montana Fifth Wheel compared to the Cedar Creek.  What can happen is the glue that holds the wall together gases off sometime down the road creating a pocket of air between the fiberglass and inner wall.  This gets moister in it and the mold will continue to eat the wood until the wall is no longer able to hold.  This repair costs thousands of dollars.

Cedar Creek is a non laminated wall meaning you don't have to worry about this issue.

Cedar Creek also has frameless windows, not available on the Montana.
Montana has a 1 1/2" receiver hitch where as Cedar Creek has a 2" receiver hitch on the back.
We option our Cedar Creeks with the 6-point leveling system.  The Montana has that available only in the Big Sky Edition.
Goodyear Eagle RS-A High Performance Allseason Tire 225/60R18 - Click Image to Close Load range G tires are Standard on Cedar Creek where as the Montana has it available only in the Big Sky package.  Cedar Creek has 7,000 lb axle compared with 6,000 lb. axles.
Metal Wrapped awning is now Standard on Cedar Creek and again available only in the Big Sky Edition.  The metal wrapped awning is nice because it protects your fabric from the harsh sun that deteriorate the fabric.
The Cedar Creek has the Dexter E-Z Flex suspension which is a much smoother ride compared to
MOR/ryde suspension system which Montana is using.  The Dexter E-Z flex suspension gives you 80% reduction is forces against the frame of the camper.

Here are some other things worth mentioning that we think Cedar Creek has an edge over Montana.  10,000 Gallon water filtration system, Serta Mattress, hugh one piece fiber glass shower, Corian counter tops and not just solid surface, the optional 18 cubic foot fridge with inverter and ice maker instead of just the 12 cubic foot fridge, 12v heat pads on the tanks instead of just forced air around the tanks for winter protection.
